On September 13, 1985, a specially modified F-15A Eagle launched an ASM-135 Air-Launched Anti-Satellite (ASAT) missile during one of the most unusual missions in the aircraft’s history. Climbing steeply over the Pacific, the F-15 released the missile at high altitude, sending it toward the Solwind P78-1 research satellite orbiting roughly 345 miles above Earth. The ASM-135 successfully intercepted and destroyed the satellite, making the F-15 one of the few aircraft ever used to engage a target in space. This shirt commemorates that remarkable Cold War test and the extraordinary capabilities of the F-15 Eagle.
