The North American B-25 Mitchell is a medium range bomber that was used throughout WWII. Famously, this plane was used in the Doolittle raid where 16 of these bombers were launched from the aircraft carrier USS Hornet. This raid served as a propaganda victory for the US as its first punch back at the Japanese Empire, and demonstrated that the mainland could be struck by the United States. The planes were lightened by removing everything unnecessary for the plane to fly and replaced with extra cans of fuel to both launch from the carrier and travel the distance needed to reach mainland Japan.
