Based off the original jetliner, the Boeing 707, the KC-135 Stratotanker has been flying air-to-air refueling missions for decades. They've since undergone some modernizations such as new engines, avionics, and probably a load of hardware civilians aren't allowed to know about, but these planes were built tough.
